Reclaim Your PowerResent Much? How to Let Go of a Grudge
— Kim Fulcher —

There is someone in your life, maybe from your past, maybe still in your present, who is getting your attention every single day without having to do a thing. That is what a grudge costs you.
Resentment is one of the most expensive emotions you can carry. It does not hurt the person you resent. It hurts you. Every day you replay what happened, every time you retell the story, you are giving your life force to something that already took enough from you.
Here is how to take it back.
1. Understand What a Grudge Actually Is
A grudge gets its power because you keep giving it your attention. Every time you think about what happened, replay the injustice, or retell the story, you are feeding it. And what you feed grows.
The person who hurt you has likely moved on. They are not lying awake thinking about what they did to you. You are the one paying the ongoing price.
This is not about excusing what happened. What happened may have been genuinely wrong. A grudge is not about what they did. It is about where your attention is going today. And right now, it is going to them.
A grudge gets its power because you are giving it your attention.
2. Tell Your Story Once
Find one person who will sit with you and fully hear what happened. Not someone who will take sides, offer advice, or try to fix it. Someone who will simply listen and validate that what happened to you was not okay.
Tell them everything. Get it out completely. Let yourself be heard.
Then make a conscious decision to stop telling the story. Not because it did not happen. Not because it was not significant. But because every time you tell it you relive it, and reliving it is costing you the present. One time, with the right person, is enough.
3. Redirect Your Energy
The situation that caused your resentment does not deserve your life force anymore. That is the decision.
This is not the same as forgetting. You do not have to forget. You do not have to make peace with the person. You do not have to let them back into your life. What you are doing is withdrawing your energy from the past and redirecting it to your present and your future.
Every time the thought comes up, acknowledge it and redirect. Oh, there it is again. I see you. And then deliberately bring your attention to something in your life that is worthy of it. Practice this. It takes time. But your energy belongs to you.
The situation does not deserve your life force anymore.
