Purpose and Passion

Light Your Fire: The Passion Triad

— Kim Fulcher —

Passion is not something that happens to you. It is not luck. It is not a personality type. It is a formula. And once you know the formula, you can build it.

The Passion Triad is three things working together: your values, your strengths, and your purpose. When all three are engaged in what you are doing, life stops feeling like something you are managing and starts feeling like something you are living.

Here is how to put all three together.

1. Values: What Pulls Your Attention

Your values are not moral rules. In the coaching world, a value is something that excites you, animates you, and naturally pulls your attention.

Clues to your values are everywhere. What section of the bookstore do you always go to? What topics do you read about without anyone telling you to? If someone gave you a completely free day with all responsibilities handled, what would you do?

Those answers are not random. They are telling you what you care about. Identify three to five things that genuinely light you up and attach them to what you are building.

Values put the color back into your world.

2. Strengths: What You Were Born Good At

Your strengths are the things that come so naturally you tend not to give yourself credit for them. They feel effortless to you and difficult to others. They are what people have been acknowledging you for your whole life.

Bring your strengths into your passion project deliberately. When you are using your natural gifts in service of something that matters to you, you do not need external motivation. The work itself becomes energizing.

3. Purpose: Your Why

Purpose is not a destination. It is an intention you bring to everything you do.

You can find your why in one of two places: something you want to contribute, or something you want to correct. Both are equally powerful anchors.

Before any conversation, meeting, or project, ask: what is my intention here and what do I want to contribute? That question, practiced consistently, turns the ordinary into the purposeful. And purpose practiced daily is what passion is built on.

When values, strengths, and purpose work together, your passion project becomes a jet fuel vehicle to launch you into your life.

I am on fire and I want you to be on fire too. Not because of menopause. From the inside out with your own purpose.
