How to Ditch the Drama in Your Life

— Kim Fulcher —

Drama is not something that just finds you. It follows a pattern. And that pattern has a common denominator, which means you have more power over it than you think.

Drama is a distraction. It takes your eye off what actually matters and redirects your time, energy, and emotion into things that do not move your life forward.

Drama is also cheap. It is surface-level and petty. And you are better than that.

1. Name Your Drama Bucket

Drama follows patterns, and those patterns tend to fall into a few categories. Chaos, when you have not handled your business and everything feels urgent. Poor boundaries, when you keep agreeing to things you do not want to do. Lack of direction, when you do not know what you actually want so petty things fill the space. Resentment, when you have not said what needs to be said. And a need for attention, when drama becomes the way you feel significant.

Which one do you recognize?

Give your energy only to things that are worthy of you.

2. Find the Bait and Stop Biting

Every drama scenario has a bait. Something that hooks your attention and pulls you into the spiral.

Maybe it is a certain person who knows how to get a rise out of you. Maybe it is a recurring conversation that never resolves.

When you can see the bait, you have a choice. You do not have to bite. The moment you catch yourself about to enter the familiar loop, stop. Name it. Then redirect your attention to something that actually deserves it.

3. Find the Common Denominator

In the drama in your life, what is the common denominator? Is there a specific person who is always at the center of it? A specific place? Or is it you, in a specific pattern?

If the common denominator is a person, you have a decision to make about the role of that person in your life. If the common denominator is you, that is actually the most powerful answer because you have the most control over you.

What would have to change for the pattern to change? Start there.

Drama is cheap, it is surface level and petty, and you are better than that.
