Self-Care Is Science

How to Have More Peace in Your Life

— Kim Fulcher —

Peace is not waiting for everything to calm down. Peace is something you build inside yourself, so the outside does not have to be calm for you to be okay.

Most women are waiting for the circumstances of their lives to settle before they allow themselves to feel peaceful. But peace that depends on external conditions is not peace. It is luck.

Real peace is a practice.

1. Be Peaceful — Bring It With You

When you walk into a room, a relationship, a situation, you bring something with you. You get to choose what that something is.

Peace is not reactive. It is a decision you make before the situation arrives. When you decide in advance that you are going to bring calm, curiosity, and generosity to whatever you encounter, you are less likely to be hooked by what you find there.

This week, notice how you are showing up. Are you entering situations looking for what is right, or scanning for what is wrong?

You are good and you are good enough. Life is happening for you.

2. Mind Your Own Business

A remarkable amount of the anxiety women carry is about things that are genuinely not their business. How other people are living their lives. Choices adult children are making. Decisions colleagues are making.

Unless the physical wellbeing of someone is at risk, or the situation is directly affecting you, it is not your business.

Refocusing that energy on your own life, your own choices, your own growth, is one of the most effective things you can do to increase your daily sense of peace.

3. Stop Caring What Other People Think

Other people are going to have opinions about you. They always will. Some of those opinions will not be flattering. None of them are your business.

The energy spent managing other people’s perceptions of you, softening how you show up to avoid judgment — that energy belongs to you. It is not producing peace. It is producing exhaustion.

The deeper your self-connection, the less their opinions land. Because you already know who you are.

You are good and you are good enough. Life is happening for you.
